Jim's Custom Baits
Jim Medlin was born in the small town of Blue Mountain, Mississippi in 1937. Living most of his life in Walbash, Arkansas and now residing in Southaven, Mississippi, he has fished most of the lakes in Northern Mississppi and Eastern Arkansas. Fishing with his father since early childhood he has used many lures and has seen them come and go. Not satisfied with what he could buy, Jim desided one day somewhere around 1963 to pick up a hobby and build his own spinner bait. That's when Jim's Custom Baits was born. For years Jim has made spinner baits selling a few here and there. Mostly giving them to local kids and friends in the area... just because he loved the idea of getting someone else involed in fishing. In October 2005, Jim took on a part time job at Sportsman's Warehouse... in the fishing department none the less. With a little help and encouragement of co-workers and friends, Jim is now selling his custom lures, both in the store and on the web through this site. Over the years he has experimented with many other baits. Now Jim makes not just spinner baits, but also #2 crank baits, top water poppers, buzz baits, and inline spinners.

Spinner baits come in two standard sizes, three standard blade combonations(colorado/colorado,willow/willow,or colorado/willow)silver or gold, and twelve standard color patterns:
3/8 oz.- 5/0 hook- 60 strand skirts.....$5.00
1/4oz.- 4/0 hook- 40 strand skirts.....$4.50
Mustad Ultra Point Hooks or Cycle Hooks are available.
All spinners come with Sampo swivels and .035 gauge pre-twisted wire.

I caught this nice bass on one of Jim's baits. I through a 3/8 oz White Mist spinner bait between some cypress trees and that fish couldn't resist. I've consistently caught fish on Mr. Jim's baits, weather it's a spinner bait or one of his crankbaits. I use these baits on a regular basis and they hold up well; no missing paint, the skirts stay on, and the swivels that Jim uses are the best in the industry. Two words, THEY WORK. Jim's baits are made as good as any commercial bait on the market, and better than most I have used. I had an awsome day (3/24/06) on Sardis Lake with a friend of mine, we fished on both the upper and lower lake and caught fish both places. The only baits that were working were Jim's spinners (white mist and black/red mist) we through soft plastics, crankbaits, and a Berkley bladedancer, but none of them worked.
4.5 lbs first bass of the day.

I would like to tell you how impressed I was with the baits you are selling. I was looking for spinnerbaits that would hold up to really big bass. In the past trips to Lake El Salto, Mexico I had lost some big fish because of the wire breaking off at the head or even pulling out of it. The biggest problem was the blades getting knocked off or pulled off by big fish. Someone suggested "Jim's Custom Baits". They are by far the most durable spinnerbaits I have used. I used them on my last trip to Lake El Salto and caught dozens of huge bass with no problems. Every trip in the past has resulted in several broken baits. this trip, NOT ONE. The rotation and vibration of the blades in these baits is awsome. I used them in over 20 feet of water and caught many while the bait was still falling. Several between 8 to 10 lbs.
